Throughout the month of April for Diversity Month, along with our regional chamber partners, we will be highlighting some amazing individuals in our community that are spearheading diversity, equity, and inclusion causes and initiatives, as well as business leaders and owners with diverse backgrounds. Our first highlight is Genelle Sedon, Director of C & G Tutoring and ESL Program Specialist for Wilkes-Barre Area.
In Genelle’s words: “As one of the few diverse and bilingual educators in the Wyoming Valley, I am proud to be a role model/mentor/advocate for many diverse and immigrant students in my school district.” Genelle advocates for her students daily. She has also been a summer instructor for the Hispanic Outreach Program at King’s College for nearly a decade. In addition to her professional roles, she also volunteers as a liaison between the Hispanic Outreach Program at King’s College and her school. She mentors as many students as possible at school, and, in the past, she has translated for many non-English-speaking families. Each year, she participates in the SPCA Walk for the Animals. For 2021, she helped raise over $190 at her school with a dress down day.
